BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The tight race for champion of the 2009 Nationwide Tour Players Cup is over; 41-year-old Tom Gillis finished with four consecutive pars for his first victory of the season.
The Michigan native had battled several injuries causing him to lose stride on the Nationwide Tour. "I really had to claw my way back," Gillis said. "It's going to make it real special. I get my chance to get back out there again. It's a lot of fun. I really enjoy it out there."
Gillis received $108,000 in winnings, and jumped to No. 10 on the Nationwide Tour money list after starting at 108thbefore the Players Cup.
