What is the Nationwide Tour Players Cup?
The Nationwide Tour Players Cup is a professional golf tournament that is part of the PGA Tour's Nationwide Tour. The Nationwide Tour Players Cup is the Tour's premier in-season event, which features a unique 144-player field based on the Tour's money list and a record $1 million purse.

What is the Nationwide Tour and how is it related to the PGA TOUR?
The Nationwide Tour is the official proving ground for future PGA TOUR champions. Some of the world’s best players – including Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, David Toms, Tom Lehman and Zach Johnson – sharpened their skills on the Nationwide Tour before winning major championships on the PGA TOUR.

What are the dates of the tournament?
July 7-13, 2008; Pro-Ams on July 7th and 9th

What is the tournament format?
Four (4) day, 72 hole stroke-play competition; 36-hole cut to the lowest 60 scores and ties after play on Friday, July 11. There will be no open qualifying or sponsor invitees. Top 144 players of the 2008 money list through the preceding event (Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic, Canada, June 23-29)

What it the prize money for the Nationwide Tour Players Cup?
The overall purse is $1 million, with the winner taking home $180,000

Where is the tournament played at in 2008 and how do I contact the tournament office?
The tournament is played at the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va. The course plays to a par 72 and is 7300 yards in length. You can contact the tournament office at (304) 848-2027 or by visiting the contact page of the website.

What takes place during tournament week?

What time does tournament play usually begin and end?
That question typically depends on what day the round is being played. On Thursday and Friday, tee times begin on holes 1 and 10 from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM for the morning groups and from 12:15 PM to 2:15 PM for the afternoon groups. The admissions gate opens at 7:30 AM with play usually finishing around 7:00 PM. On Saturday and Sunday, tee times typically start around 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM with play finishing around 6:00 PM.

How do I get tickets for the event and how much do the cost?
Tickets may be purchased in advance through the tournament website or from a local W.Va. charity that is participating in the tournaments TICKETS Fore Charity program. To view a complete list of those charities, please visit the charity page of the website. Tournament "Grounds" passes ($25) and "Clubhouse" passes ($50) are good for the entire week of the tournament.

Is there an official charity for the tournament?
Technically speaking, no. The Nationwide Tour Players Cup has launched a new program, TICKETS Fore Charity, to create additional funding for charitable organizations. The progam allows for all participating charities to get involve and sell tickets for the tournamnet. The charities in return receive 100% of the money raised from their ticket sales. Volunteering

How do I become an official volunteer for the tournament?
Complete a volunteer registration form, which can be found here or the form can either be printed out and sent to the tournament office.

What sort of tasks do volunteers perform?
There are 14 different volunteer committees associated with the event. A few examples of these committees include: Marshals, Volunteer Services, Walking Scorer, and Construction. For a complete listing with descriptions, please click here .

How many shifts am I required to work?
There is no set number of shifts that a volunteer must work, but to be eligible for for a free round of golf at the Pete Dye Golf Club a minimum of four shifts must be completed. There are two shifts offered an AM (6am - 12pm) and a PM (12pm- 6pm) Each shift will last approximately 4-6 hours depending on the committee assignment.

Where do volunteers park?
All volunteers park will park on Meadowbrook Road.

Where do volunteers check in for their shift?
Volunteer Headquarters is located just passed the clubhouse about 150 yards on the right hand side of the road.

What if I can't make it to work my shift?
We ask that you please call your committee chairperson as soon as you know that you are unable to cover your shift. If they are not available, please contact Volunteer Headquarters.

Should I report to my shift if it is raining?
Yes, even if your committee assignement is outdoors. In the case of any weather delays, your committee chairperson will provide you with instructions.

What do I need to bring?
You should arrive at Volunteer Headquarters wearing you volunteer shirt and hat. Bring your volunteer badge and wear it at all times. Cell phones and cameras are not allowed on the course.

Where can I get something to eat or drink?
At Volunteer Headquarters, the tournament will give you breakfast or lunch before or after your shift of work. You will receive your meal voucher when you check in at Volunteer Headquarters.

Why is there a fee to be volunteer?
The $30 volunteer fee is used to offset the cost of volunteer uniforms and it is typical for major professional sporting events to charge a fee. Included in the fee, each volunteer receives:

  • A commemorative Players Cup golf shirt, hat, and collector's pin (an additional shirt can be purchased for $35).
  • An invitation to a volunteer appreciation party, Sunday evening after the tournament has been completed.
  • Food and refreshments while volunteering throughout tournament week.
  • An invitation to play volunteer golf at the Pete Dye Golf Club (a minimum of four shifts must be completed to receive an invitation to play golf).
